Black and white charcoal landscape on tonal paper as the mid tone, using participants’ own photos.

Alan will demonstrate with his own image.

Discussion during the demonstration to include:

Compositionconsiderations eg

How to choose a suitable stimulus photo

What makes a good/strong composition

Selecting key elements/focal points

Moving key elements around

Tonal considerations

Common mistakes

Use of the medium eg types of and variation of marks, use of smudging etc
