Throughout the week the Grain Store Studio is a hive of activity with sketch groups being held each weekday except for public holidays and a Christmas break. The groups are untutored and coordinated by a leader. They are open to both members and non-members and numbers are limited only by space.
Minors are required to be accompanied by a parent. For further clarification contact adelaideartsociety@gmail.com.
The society provides easels, backboards, chairs and tables; all other art materials you require you must bring. There are 2 requests; if oil paint is used please use odourless solvents and mediums; if using charcoal or pastels which may leave a mess on the floor, please use the drop sheets provided.
The studio is heated or cooled dependent on the temperature and with music playing it makes for a comfortable artists' environment. It is well lit with a variety of lighting options.
There is no need to book, just turn up with your art materials; there is also no minimum standard of work/experience required. We cater for all levels of expertise and other artists are happy to help with any questions.
Our groups are friendly and welcome new artists.
Artists and models, to contact a sketch group, visit the studio during sketch group times, 10.00 am – 1.00 pm or please contact us in advance.
By working as a model for the Adelaide Art Society, you agree to any artworks produced of you as the model, being exhibited, published and/or reproduced. The artwork is the property of the producing artist to do with as the artist wishes.

Our models are from a range of backgrounds and ages, male and female. We usually have a different model each fortnight. The group is involved in arranging the model in the pose and setting the lighting. The model holds the same pose for the session, taking a short break every 20 mins. There is a 30 mins coffee break at about 11.00 for relaxing, socialising and browsing the library.

The Still Life Group members produce a beautiful range of works using as inspiration a new arrangement each session. The items making up an arrangement can use fabric and vases from the society collection as well as flowers and even vegetables, often from members' gardens. Lighting lends a final touch so that shadows can add emphasis. Members together agree when the inspiration is just right.
Coffee/tea break is taken around 11.00 am. 30 minutes allow for discussion and relaxation. Before the group breaks up to leave by 1.00 pm, the new works of art are displayed and admired.
