Barbara McGuire, although always interested in Art, was not able to fulfil her dream until she had retired from a long career of teaching in schools in both South Australia and the Northern Territory.
She studied art at the Underdale Campus of the S.A. University and in the following years attended many courses including a year at the Central School of Art at Norwood, studying drawing with Anna Platten and workshops given by renowned artists from all over Australia and other countries. Her influences have been many, including Trevor Newman, Liz Gartner, Herman Pekel and Joseph Zbukvic.
She is a lifetime member of the Adelaide Art Society where for many years she was a Committee member and has held the office of President. She is currently the leader of the 'Friday Sketch Group'.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, South Australia and spent several years on their Committee .
Barbara is also a member of the South Australian Water Colour Society.
Over the past twenty years she has exhibited widely and successfully and continues to follow her love of art by regularly painting both at the A.A.S.I. studio and with friends en plein air.
Barbara’s love of nature has a large influence on her work and her passion for watercolour is evident in her work.
